Iran seeks to change World Cup venues, Mexican president states it can host

The 2026 World Cup hasn't started yet, but changes in the host venues are already arising. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that if tensions in the Middle East continue, Mexico is ready to host the group matches that Iran was originally scheduled to play in the United States. According to the current schedule, Iran is set to face New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, and Egypt in Seattle. However, the Iranian Football Federation is in communication with FIFA to explore the possibility of moving the matches to another country. At a press conference, Sheinbaum said bluntly: "We are willing to host; everything depends on FIFA's arrangements." However, FIFA responded that it still hopes all teams will compete according to the scheduled plan. This World Cup will be jointly held by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and any change in venues would become a significant variable before the event.
