
The latest ranking of global university influence released by Times Higher Education shows that Canadian universities are outstanding in the field of sustainable development. Nine of the top ten universities in North America are from Canada, and only Arizona State University (Tempe) is shortlisted as the representative of the United States. Queen's University ranked sixth in the world with its "Zero Hunger" project, university of alberta ranked eighth with its industrial innovation achievements, and five universities, including McMaster University and Victoria University, tied for 14th. In the 2026QS World University Rankings released in the same period, McGill University surpassed the University of Toronto (29th) in the world to lead Canada, while the University of British Columbia ranked 40th, while university of alberta rose from 96 last year to 94, and together with McGill, Dawa and UBC, it formed the top four teams in Canada. QS ranking shows that Massachusetts Institute of Technology has dominated the world for 14 consecutive years, and universities in mainland China have made remarkable progress. Peking University, Tsinghua University and Fudan University have all jumped in the rankings, and five universities in China have entered the top 100 in the world. The person in charge of the Times ranking pointed out that Canadian universities have formed a group advantage in promoting the sustainable development agenda, while American universities are not fully involved except for a few cases.
