The core section of New Westminster will be completely closed this weekend. Affected by the replacement project of Patulo Bridge, Front Street will be closed all day from 20:00 on June 20th to 5:30 on June 23rd, so as to facilitate the construction of the new bridge deck. The closure will not affect the operation of surrounding businesses, and the business access in downtown New Westminster remains normal. The "Friday Night Market" scheduled to be held every month has not been affected because it has not yet opened in July. The opening time of the newly-built Patulo Bridge has been postponed for the third time. The latest expected opening time is autumn 2025, which has been delayed for nearly two years compared with the original planned completion target by the end of 2023. Since the project started in the spring of 2021, the construction period was adjusted from 2022 to 2024. Last month, due to the construction demand, the old bridge was closed again, which caused the regional traffic to be blocked.
